Permalinks That Stand the Test of Time
WordPress (and other blog softwares) do offer permalinks. IMO WordPress does this very well.
The blog designer (myself) is the problem here. Whenever the finicky, changeable blog designer decides that the permalink should or shouldn’t contain the category, or reorganizes everything into different categories, or later finds a word in the permalink objectionable… that permalink is now broken.
You could write the permalink as the domain plus a unique, random code — as URL shortening services do. http://zarathud.org/dkUr2u. But that loses the beauty of a URL that tells you something about the article.
WordPress Works
8/7/2011: Well, that’s interesting. When I change the permalink structure, I’d expect old cross-links to break. WordPress is making this work anyway. Nice.
